Confrontation and Integration:How Translation Affects the Modernization of Chinese Astronomy
Traditional Chinese astronomy's transition to a modern science comes as the result of a cultural exchange activity promoted by translation instead of its own development.This paper argues that it is by translation that modern western astronomy was introduced into China,which not only enabled the communication of the two cultures on the universe,but also reshaped the Confucians'thought of the Heaven.This whole activity reveals the academic importance of translation in the construction of modern Chinese discipline.
