Brain-Machine Intelligence and the Problem of Consciousness
Brain-Machine intelligence refers to the intelligence achieved through brain-computer interfaces that combine biological brain intelligence and machine intelligence. In this system, the neural signals of the human brain are captured and decoded by AI to control bionic limbs, generate speech,or perform other operations.AI also generates stimuli for organisms based on their state, environment, tasks, and needs, aiming to restore or enhance their perceptions, actions, and emotions. While current brain-machine intelligence can perform basic functions,it lacks real and credible conscious experience,as well as a strong sense of autonomy and agency. On this basis, this paper proposes that by considering illusions of consciousness, the scientific principles of neural plasticity, and the philosophical insight of the thesis of extended mind and extended consciousness,brain-machine intelligence can achieve credible conscious experience and a sense of autonomy and mobility. The paper also suggests that by adopting multi-modal control signals and feedback,as well as using artificial intelligence for control and feedback,brain-machine intelligence can not only become more powerful but also capable of providing more realistic inse of autonomy and agency.conscious experiences as well as a stronger sense of autonomy and agency.
