Social Work for Liberation and the Sociological Imagination
Compared with the traditional Charity, which often had religious background, modern social work as a government function has undergone a significant change in its relationship to the existing social order. It displays a stronger"control"function in maintaining the current social order and system than its predecessors. However, since the 1980s,a series of indicators, including the dialogue between Foucault and social workers, the advocacy and practice of constructive social work, sociological social work, and structural social work, have shown a trend shifting from control-oriented social work that maintains the status quo to liberating social work that promotes social change. In order for social work to fully exert its liberating function, social workers, service recipients as collaborators, and even the general public must possess a"sociological imagination".
