On the Impact of the Digital Economy on Residents'Consumption Promotion:An Empirical Analysis Based on Micro Survey Data
Promoting consumption comprehensively is a crucial driver for accelerating the establishment of a new development pattern centered on the domestic economy,with domestic and international circulations mutually reinforcing each other.The digital economy has given rise to a series of new consumption patterns and scenarios,providing a significant opportunity to boost household consumption.Utilizing provincial panel data and micro-level household survey data from China,the study finds that the digital economy significantly enhances household consumption expenditure and drives the upgrading of consumption structure,transitioning from basic consumption to higher-level developmental consumption.The impact of the digital economy on residents'consumption varies significantly across different regions.Compared to the eastern region,the impact of the digital economy on the consumption of residents in the central and western regions is greater.The mechanisms of influence indicate that the digital economy raises consumption levels by improving the convenience of online shopping,alleviating household liquidity constraints,and boosting entrepreneurial activity and non-agricultural employment.This study provides a new perspective for understanding how the digital economy promotes consumption,and also offers some reference and lessons for the government to formulate and improve consumption stimulation policies.
