Overall Progress and Regional Differences in Chinese Modernization:A Historical Review and Outlook for 2035
General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized that promoting Chinese modernization must be regarded as a paramount political priority. This serves as a fundamental requirement for China's future development. However, given the significant disparities in regional development across the country, the process of advancing Chinese mo-dernization must also consider these regional differences. Therefore, examining the historical trajectory of Chinese modernization is essential for a profound understanding of its significance and for accurately grasping future deve-lopmental trends.Over the past 30 years,China's per capita GDP has experienced rapid growth, transforming from a low-income country to an upper middle-income country according to World Bank classifications, and increasing its per capita GDP ratio to that of the U.S.from less than 5 percent to 28 percent.Concurrently,China's moderniza-tion process exhibits notable regional disparities, which have initially expanded before subsequently narrowing.Based on historical development and current dynamics,China is fully capable of achieving the goal of basic moder-nization by 2035.
