Effects of adding fresh wood chips on the cultivated soil and growth of peony
This study took the fresh wood chips, obtained from the pruning and crushing of urban trees,as a soil improvement additive to compare the morphology,full-bloom stage and leaf relative chlorophyll value(SPAD),and found that the addition of fresh wood chips significantly increased the total porosity,non-capillary and capillary porosity of the soil(Ft=311.502,Fni=226.41,Fc=92.384,p<0.01),and significantly changed the flowering period, annual increment of plant height, crown width, annual increment of basal diameter, and SPAD of leaves of peony. The optimal improvement formula for adding 60%of 6 cm fresh wood chips was proposed. The study results provide a soil improvement method with good air permeability and water retention, low cost,no negative effects, and green environmental protection for the cultivation of southern peony.
