Synthesis and Performance Study of Solvent-Free Polyurethane Association Thickeners
With polyethylene glycol(relative molecular mass of 2 000-10 000)and adiphecyanates(HDI)as raw materials,and 2-hexyl-1-decanol as capping agent,a series of polyurethane association thickeners were synthesized by using the same process without solvent addition.The effects of polyethylene glycol with different relative molecular mass and proportioning factors on the thickening effect of coatings were explored.The results showed that a variety of polyurethane association thickeners with good thickening effect and thixotropy were successfully synthesized without solvent addition.The thickening efficiency of polyurethane association thickeners was affected by the relative molecular mass of polyethylene glycol,the end-capping efficiency,and the number of hydrophobic segments at the same solid content.HEUR-2-1,synthesized from PEG2000,is an environmentally-friendly,highly viscous and highly thixotropic solvent-free polyurethane association thickener.
