A comparative study of conservative treatment versus surgical treatment on grade Ⅲ knee anterior cruciate ligament injuries
Objective:By comparing conservative and surgical treatments after anterior cruciate ligament(ACL)injury of the knee, different treatment options for ACL injury of the knee are explored to provide reference for the choice of clinical treatment. Methods:The data from forty patients with grade Ⅲ knee ACL injury were retrospectively analyzed and they were divided into a conservative treatment group and a surgical treatment group with 20 cases each according to the treatment method. The visual analogue scale(VAS)scores,Lysholm knee function scores and range of motion of knee before treatment and 2 years after treatment were compared between two groups. Results:At 2 years after treatment,VAS and Lysholm knee function scores and knee mobility were improved in both groups(P<0.05);the differences between two groups in VAS and Lysholm knee function scores and knee mobility were not statistically significant(P>0.05).In addition,2 years after treatment, the Lysholm knee function score in patients aged<14 years in the surgical treatment group was lower than that of patients aged≥14 years(P<0.05).Conclusion:There is little difference in the overall outcome between patients with grade Ⅲ ACL injuries treated with surgery and conservative treatment, but patients treated conservatively do not have to suffer from surgical injuries and possible postoperative complications;therefore,it is recommended that patients with grade Ⅲ ACL injuries should be prioritized for conservative treatment, and especially for adolescents, the use of conservative treatment will have a superior outcome.
