A survey of college students'awareness and intervention needs of hypertension in Lingang Special Area of Shanghai
Objective:To investigate the predisposing factors,intervention needs and related knowledge for hypertension in the college students in Lingang Special Area of Shanghai,and to provide a basis for formulating targeted prevention and control strategies.Methods:A cluster sampling method was used to select the students from 4 universities in Lingang Special Area,Shanghai as the investigated objects and they were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire from November to December 2022.Results:Of the 4 203 college students,2 601(61.9%)had a family history of hypertension,397(9.5%)felt significant or extreme emotional stress,2 474(58.9%)experienced emotional states such as tension,anxiety,depression,disappointment,fear,and irritability in the past year,1 418(33.7%)had a preference for salty foods,2 778(66.1%)knew their basic blood pressure range,2 367(56.3%)had insufficient awareness of hypertension risk factors,and 2 944(70.0%)had misconceptions about the diagnostic criteria for hypertension,and only 17(0.4%)received full marks in the hypertension-related knowledge survey,among them the high-scoring group had 1 775(42.2%)and the low-scoring group had 2 428(57.8%).The results from binary logistic regression analysis showed that gender,household registration,ethnicity,and parents'highest education level were statistically significant factors affecting college students'awareness of hypertension related knowledge(P<0.05).Conclusion:The college students in Lingang Special Area of Shanghai have insufficient knowledge of hypertension,and personalized hypertension health education should be provided for the above-mentioned college students,with a focus on male students,those from other provinces,ethnic minorities,and those with parents of lower education levels.
