The value of monitoring serum prolactin for the use of risperidone in male schizophrenia
Objective:To explore the value of monitoring serum prolactin(PRL)in the use of risperidone in male schizophrenia. Methods:Sixty male patients with schizophrenia admitted to the Third People's Hospital of Jian City from April 2023 to October 2023 were collected, and the random number table method was used to divide them into two groups with 30 cases in each group. The risperidone group received treatment with risperidone tablets, while the aripiprazole group received treatment with aripiprazole tablets. Both groups were treated for 8 weeks. The differences in serum PRL,positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS)scores, and treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS)scores between two groups of patients were compared before and after treatment. Results:The serum PRL value in the risperidone group at the 4th and 8th weekend of treatment were higher than those before treatment(P<0.05);there was no significant change in the serum PRL value before and after treatment in the aripiprazole group(P>0.05).On the 4th and 8th weekend of treatment, the PANSS positive and negative scales, general psychopathological problems, and total scores in the two groups were lower than those before treatment, but there were no differences in statistical significance(P<0.05).The TESS scores inf the risperidone group were higher than those in the aripiprazole group at the 4th and 8th weekend of treatment(P<0.05).Conclusion:The use of risperidone in the treatment of male schizophrenia can lead to significant changes in serum PRL and side effects due to increased duration of medication, clinical medication should be cautious, and grassroots hospitals can also monitor patient compliance and dosage of risperidone based on PRL levels.
