Interpretation of"field hunting-patterned ribbon"fabric unearthed from Mashan Chu Tomb from the perspective of iconography
The textile image of"field hunting-patterned ribbon"unearthed from the tomb of Mashan Chu in the Warring States Period is the first to put the characters,animals and scenes in the same image.This paper improves the clothing and material system of the Warring States Period from a new visual angle.Through the research methods of imagology and narratology,the physical data and images of"field hunting-patterned ribbons"unearthed from the No.1 tomb of Chu in Mashan,Jiangling were analyzed step by step,and the image construction of field hunting characters was restored from the perspective of"pre-iconography description","iconography analysis"and"iconology interpretation",the narrative characteristics of field hunting images were proposed,and the development reasons for the popularity of field hunting activities were excavated.First of all,the"pre-iconography description"focuses on the image construction of the"field hunting-patterned ribbon"fabric image,and restores the source of the"field hunting-patterned ribbon"image,the spatial composition form of"bottom line and horizon"and the role image.Secondly,the iconography analysis describes the narrative features of the fabric image of"field hunting-patterned ribbon",and highlights the abstract visual effect,dynamic sportsmanship and juxtaposition of scene transformation through the narrative features.At last,by using the"iconology interpretation"to explain the reasons for the development of the"field hunting-patterned ribbon"fabric image,it shows that the field hunting activities led the life trend and social fashion at that time.The research shows that through the decomposition of iconography knowledge and deep digging of the image construction and restoration of"field hunting-patterned ribbons",as well as the existence of image narrative intuitiveness,symbolism and synchronicity and other characteristics,one can feel the character endowed with a strong sportsmanship.These four image units are juxtaposed and synchronic because of their similar narrative characteristics of hunting culture.They set off the same theme and are placed in the same comprehensive space,showing Chu people's unique artistic concept and aesthetic connotation.With the inevitable trend of multi-cultural thoughts and social unrest in the Warring States Period,a strange and novel hunting culture situation was opened up.This paper also summarizes that military,sacrificial,agricultural and entertainment factors were the main reasons for the popularity of hunting activities in the Warring States Period.In this paper,the uniqueness of"field hunting-patterned ribbons"lies first in its image.Based on the pattern image of field hunting-patterned ribbon fabrics in the Warring States Period,the color selection and pattern categories are summarized and the image construction is carried out.The essential purpose of the fabric is to deeply study the fabric itself,the social customs of Chu State in the Warring States Period,and the relationship between materiality and spirituality generated by artistic will based on the research method of image science and internal logic.At the same time,"field hunting-patterned ribbon"cleverly applied abstract visual effects and concrete scene modules in Chu art to clothing design in clothing fabric and culture,which is a continuation of its pursuit of freedom and unconstrained humanistic connotation and spiritual value.
