Objective To investigate the clinical effects of treating elderly patients with severe pneumonia with Baihu Decoction plus reduction combined with imipenem cilastatin.Methods A total of 80 elderly patients with severe pneumonia admitted to Haiyang Hospital of traditional Chinese medicine from January to December 2021 were selected as the research objects.According to different treatment plans,they were divided into con-trol group and traditional Chinese medicine group,with 40 cases in each group.The control group was treated with imipenem cilastatin,and the traditional Chinese medicine group was treated with Baihu Decoction on the basis of the control group.The effective rate of treatment,serum inflammatory factors(interleukin-6,C-reactive protein),biochemical indicators(white blood cell count,neutrophil percentage,platelet count),and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups.Results The effective rate of treatment in the Chinese Medicine group was 97.50%(39/40),which was higher than that of 80.00%(32/40)in the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(χ2=9.202,P＜0.05).Comparing the incidence of adverse reactions during treatment between the two groups,the difference was not statistically significant(P＞0.05).After treatment,the levels of interleukin-6,C-reactive protein,white blood cell count,neutrophil percentage,and platelet count in the Chinese medicine group were better than those in the control group,and the differences were statistically sig-nificant(all P＜0.05).Conclusion Baihu Decoction plus reduction combined with imipenem cilastatin in the treatment of elderly patients with severe pneumonia can quickly eliminate the symptoms of the disease and will not produce serious adverse reactions.
