Radiation uniformity characteristics of portable natural radioactivity pad system
The break throng of uranium exploration in new areas, new horizons and new types has accelerated the application of drone aerial radioactivity measurement technology, and brings out the demand for on-site calibration of Unmanned aerial γ spectrometer. The traditional"Airborne Radioactivity Measurement Model Standard Device"fixed at the airport is not suitable for on-site calibration,a portable standard device is need to be developed to carry according to the characteristics of Unmanned aerial γ spectrometer. The"portable natural radioactive combination pad system"was developed in this research. To get the uniformity of the gamma radiation field generated by the combination,we tested the vertical and horizontal radiation characteristics of the natural radiation field formed by placing six small pad combinations. The results showed that within the range of 50~120 cm above the center of the radiation field, the radiation field changes of the MAP-U,MAP-Th,and Map-M pads were within 5%.The MAP-K pad had a significant change due to the limitations of natural potassium content and detector sensitivity to 40K,but its vertical radiation field was uniform; The horizontal direction presents a uniform scattering distribution with the center as the origin:compared to the central position, the variation within the range of 100 cm×100 cm was approximately within 5%;200 cm×200 cm,20%;300 cm×300 cm,35%.Its radiation characteristics meet the uniformity requirements in relevant calibration specifications and can be used for the calibration of large vehicle/airborne radiometric systems.
