Acid leaching treatment of transuranic nuclides in intermediate radioactive α-nuclide slurry
The intermediate level radioactive waste liquid generated by the post-treatment process of nuclear fuel cycle releases some chemical slurry during storage, with a high content of transuranic nuclides, reaching intermediate levels of radioactivity, belonging to the intermediate α slurry. It seriously affects the retirement process of the old tank farm and urgently needs to be treated and dispose of.Currently, there is no engineering application treatment plan and disposal conditions in China. For the follow-up large-scale industrial treatment and disposal,a plant has formulated a technical route for acid leaching of transuranic nuclides in α slurry,so as to realize the purpose of solidification treatment of slurry cement near the surface. The acid leaching of transuranic nuclides into solution is one of the key steps in the degrading of slurry. The study used real α slurry to carry out the extraction of transuranic nuclides in α slurry with different concentrations of nitric acid. The main tasks were to determine the water content of representative slurry, explore the experimental conditions for acid leaching, and investigate the dissolution of low concentration nitric acid. The results show that the moisture content of the representative medium-α slurry stored in the old tank farm is 65%-70%,and the dissolution rate of the slurry can be achieved with a single nitric acid α 65%-70%,and the recommended experimental conditions are:nitric acid concentration 8 mol/L,nitric acid and mud volume mass ratio of 4∶1,mechanical agitation with ultrasound, dissolution at high temperature(80℃),dissolution time of more than 30 min, transuranic nuclide leaching of medium slurry, transuranic nuclide leaching rate of 96%.This study lays the foundation for slurry degradation treatment.
