Does the Coupling Coordination of the Dual Value Chains Promote Enterprise Pollution Reduction
The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China points out that Chinese modernization is a modernization in which human beings live in harmony with nature. We use the matching data of Chinese Industrial Enterprises Database,Chinese Industrial Enterprise Pollution Emissions Database, the Interregional Input-Output Tables of China and the World Input-Output Tables to investigate the impact and the influence mechanism of the coupling coordination of the dual value chains on the enterprise pollution emission intensity. The study finds that the coupling coordination of the dual value chains has a significant pollution reduction effect, which can reduce the en-terprise pollution emission intensity, and the results are robust to a series of endogenous tests and robustness tests. The mechanism test shows that the coupling coordination of the dual value chains reduces the enterprise pollution emission intensity by promoting green technol-ogy progress and investment in pollution treatment.Further test reveals that the coupling coordination of the dual value chains not only re-alizes pollution reduction based on firms'own growth, but also reduces the overall pollution emission intensity by promoting static and dy-namic resource reallocation among enterprises.Heterogeneity study finds that the pollution reduction effect of the coupling coordination of the dual value chains is more obvious for the non-state-owned enterprises, the large-scale enterprises, the high capital intensity industries, the high pollution intensity industries and eastern regions. The conclusions provide new ideas for China to achieve a win-win situation in terms of environmental optimization and smoothing the domestic and international double cycle, which provides evidence for constructing a green development pattern adapted to Chinese modernization.
