Regional Trade Agreements and In-depth Cooperation with the Asia-Pacific Industrial Chain
Promoting the process of regional economic integration represented by regional trade agreements(RTAs)is an important support for building a closer Asia-Pacific industrial chain and supply chain.Based on the quasi-natural experiment of RTA signed between Asia-Pacif-ic economies from 1995 to 2018,this paper uses the multi-temporal double difference method to investigate the influence and mechanism of RTA on in-depth cooperation in Asia-Pacific industrial chain. The results show that RTA significantly promotes the in-depth cooperation of the Asia-Pacific industrial chain, and this promotion effect is mainly achieved by reducing trade costs and narrowing the difference in e-conomic freedom. The heterogeneity analysis shows that the promotion effect of RTA on the in-depth cooperation of the Asia-Pacific indus-trial chain has multiple heterogeneities such as clause type, economic pair, geographical region,RTA type,Asia-Pacific value chain sta-tus difference,RTA network structure and bilateral political relationship.Based on China's empirical analysis,RTA significantly promotes China's participation in in-depth cooperation in the Asia-Pacific industrial chain, and the promotion effect is more prominent in the context of RTA,which covers the"WTO-X"clause,and the industrial chain cooperation with developed economies(or non-East Asian econo-mies)in the Asia-Pacific region.
