Impact of the"Silk-Road E-commerce"International Cooperation on China's Digital Services Trade
As a new endeavor of the"Belt and Road"Initiative in the field of international digital cooperation,the"Silk Road e-commerce"in-ternational cooperation shoulders the mission of expanding China's digital trade partners and exploring new dimensions in international eco-nomic and trade cooperation.This article,based on the Balanced International Trade in Services provided by the OECD and WTO,em-ploys a time-varying difference-in-differences(DID)model to examine the impact of"Silk Road e-commerce"international cooperation on China's digital services trade.Firstyly,the study reveals that the"Silk Road e-commerce"international cooperation significantly enhances China's exports and imports of digital services with partner countries.This conclusion remains robust after undergoing DID validity tests and various robust tests.Secondly,mechanism analysis demonstrates that the narrowing of digital institutional distance,digital technology cooperation,and cross-border e-commerce development are the primary pathways through which the"Silk Road e-commerce"international cooperation generates trade effects.Thirdly,heterogeneity analysis indicates that the"Silk Road E-commerce"primarily stimulates China's imports of intellectual property usage fees and exports of ICT services.And the aforementioned trade outcomes and policy effects are pri-marily pronounced within emerging and developing economies.This paper not only contributes to a more objective understanding of the tangible impact of the"Silk Road E-commerce"international Cooperation on China's digital service trade,but also provides significant policy insights for China's engagement in global digital trade governance and the high-quality development of the"Belt and Road"Initiative.
