External and Internal Linkages in Global Supply Chains
Amid geopolitical tensions, this article explores the external and internal linkages in supply chains."External linkages"aim for efficiency through division of labor but carry the risk of disruption, while"internal linkages"focus on industrial security but come with opportunity costs. The strategic choice between the two presents a practical dilemma for the development of major in-dustries.This article introduces the concept of"degree",emphasizing the relationship between the depth of division of labor and the level of security in terms of supply chain resilience.Furthermore, the article argues that strategic adjustments to"external linkages"and"internal linkages"should not be seen as a simple binary or directional shift.Instead, resilience should be sought by balancing efficiency and security through the diversification of external risks and the expansion of internal division of labor. Therefore, the article concludes that diversifying external supply and demand and increasing internal factors will be key strategic considerations.
