Research Progress on Physiologic and Ecologic Characteristics of Popular
Poplar is the most widely distributed and the most adaptable species in the world. China is the largest country in terms of poplar cultivation area, and poplar plays an increasingly important role whether in land greening, farmland shelterbelt construction or industry timber forest development. Especially under the context of global climate change, the ecological carbon sequestration of popular is becoming the great concern at home and abroad. The paper introduced the research progress on physiologic and ecologic characteristics of popular in terms of photosynthetic characteristics, water physiological ecology, carbon storage and carbon cycle, structure and function. In addition, the effects of popular forests on snail control and schistosomiasis prevention in Yangtze River Basin were summarized. Finally, the paper discusses the future research trends on physiologic and ecologic characteristics of popular.
