Research Progress on Eucalyptus Breeding and Its Strategy in China
Eucalyptus is one of the most important plantation tree species in South China,with the advantages of fast growth,good wood and wide usages.It plays an important role in increasing forest resources and safeguarding wood security.There are now more than 3.6 million hm2 of Eucalyptus plantation in China.Conducting Eucalyptus breeding research and establishing breeding strategy is a basic work,which is of strategic significance for improving the growth and quality of Eucalyptus plantation as well as promoting its sustainable development.The paper reviewed Eucalyptus breeding in terms of germplasm conversation,selective breeding and hybridization and came up with a set of marco-strategies of Eucalyptus breeding suiting the national condition of China.
