Research Progress in the Impact of Raising Poultry in Forests on Soil Properties
Raising poultry(chicken, duck, goose, etc.)in forest is an agroforestry mode with high utilization ratio of forestland resources and remarkable economic benefits. It not only improves soil fertility and increases yield and income, but also profoundly changes soil properties.Reasonably raising poultry in forest can improve the soil, stabilize the soil structure and increase the contents of soil nutrients. In addition,it can change the abundance and community structure of soil animals, and adjusts the composition and diversity of the microbial communities. But the over-raising of poultry in forest will also have a negative impact such as soil compaction, nutrient loss and environmental pollution. This paper summarizes the recent national and international findings of the research on the effects of various understory poultry raising mode such as forest+chicken, forest+goose, forest+duck on soil physical, chemical and biological properties, elaborates on the comprehensive effects of these modes on soil characteristics, and points out the problems in the existing researches. The main research directions in the future are put forth, which includes strengthening the cooperative multidisciplinary research involving different fields, making full use of modern biotechnology for the research on underlying mechanism, and strengthening the research on the long-term effect of understory poultry raising.
