Research Progress in Genetic Structure and Cultivar Relationship of Macadamia Germplasm
As a high-quality woody crop, macadamia nuts are rich in nutrients and unique in taste, which are favored by consumers and thus have high commodity value. After more than 30 years'development,China's macadamia plantation area is now the world largest, while the yield ranks the world second.Macadamia now plays an increasingly important role in rural revitalization and farmers'income increase. The current cultivars bred between the 1940s and the1980s are widely cultivated around the world. In recent years,Australian researchers have cultivated new varieties with excellent nut traits from wild plants, and in China, variety selection is also widely carried out based on introduced populations and progeny plants. In this paper, the origin and selection of macadamia germplasm are summarized, and analyses are made especially for the genetic structure of existing germplasm, the relationships of main cultivars, the germplasms identification and breeding trends. The study is aimed to provide references for the continuous development and utilization of Macadamia genetic resources, promoting germplasm innovation and propelling the high-quality development of the plant breeding sector.
