Impacts of Drought on Forest Ecosystem Structure and Function:A Review of Research Progress
The impacts of drought on the structure and function of forest ecosystems under the global climate change have become the hot issue in the academic community and in the field of environmental protection. In this paper, the impacts of drought on forest ecosystem structure and function under global climate change are summarized through the comprehensive literature review.Current studies have found that drought causes the decrease of forest biogeochemical cycle, the increase of forest fire frequency, the loss of species composition and biodiversity, the decline of forest resistance and resilience, and the decline of forest productivity and stability. It is necessary to conduct comprehensive multi-factor experiments through long-term observation, extension of controlled experiment time, simulation of primary environmental conditions, etc.,to further explore the feedback regulation mechanism of above-ground coupling process on drought and the biological regulation mechanism of forest vegetation on drought stress. It would provide a theoretical reference for further understanding the impacts of drought on forest ecosystem and developing countermeasures for improving forest management under drought conditions.
