Status of Endangered Mangrove Tree Species in China and Its Endangerment Mechanism
Mangrove forest is an important component of coastal ecosystem with multiple functions such as wind and wave mitigation, land reclamation and riverbank protection, sea water purification and biodiversity conservation. However, more than half of the mangrove species in China are in the endangered status of varying degree, under the influence of human activities and global climate change. This paper provides a comprehensive summary of the species, distribution, habitat conditions and ecological characteristics of mangroves in China and reviews the status of these endangered mangrove trees and its formation mechanisms.Countermeasures are proposed for restoring and expanding the populations of endangered mangrove species, with the aim to offer references for the conservation, protection and restoration of mangrove forests in the future.
