With the advent of global population ageing, circadian sleep disorders in the elderly have become a growing con-cern.This disorder not only affects the quality of life of the elderly, but also is closely related to the occurrence and development of many chronic diseases. The etiology of the disease, including the change of biological clock, neurodegenerative diseases and the effects of drugs, was discussed in this paper.the specific changes of sleep-wake rhythm in the elderly were revealed. At the same time, the current research status is systematically reviewed, including the improvement of clinical evaluation methods and the ex-ploration of new therapeutic strategies, such as personalized options such as phototherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and medi-cation.Despite advances, the prevention and treatment of circadian sleep disorders in the elderly still faces challenges, such as the complexity of etiology, individual variability, and the persistence of efficacy.Future research should pay more attention to multidis-ciplinary cross-cutting,with a view to developing more accurate and effective interventions to improve the sleep health of the elder-ly and improve their well-being in later life.
