Deep water is an important component of global hydrocarbon sources, and quickly searching for oil and gas enriched areas can greatly promote the process of oil and gas exploration.By analyzing and dissecting the distribution characteristics of discovered gas reservoirs in the Rowuma Basin, summarizing the types and distribution patterns of gas reservoirs, and further exploring the main controlling factors of oil and gas distribution.Research suggests that there is a certain correlation between the sedimentary types and gas reservoir types of the Paleocene—Oligocene mainly gas bearing strata in the Rowuma Basin. There are three main types of developed structural fault gas reservoirs, lithological structural gas reservoirs, and lithological gas reservoirs. The distribution of gas reservoirs is characterized by planar local accumulation and vertical multi-layer stacking, showing the characteristics of multiple gas reservoirs accumulating on the gentle slope of the forebay, enriched in medium to medium high porosity turbidite sand, and sealed by high-level system tracts.Five main factors control the enrichment of oil and gas in the basin.First, the hydrocarbon source rocks of the two stages of rifts in the unique delta reshaped basin provide sufficient gas sources for the basin.Second, adequate sediment sources, the topography of the narrow and steep continental shelf edge, and bottom current processes have contributed to the development of thick,coarse-grained,and clean deep-water sedimentary reservoirs.Third, the regional distribution of mudstone formed by multiple stages of marine transgression and fine-grained composition of gravity flow sedimentation constitute effective cap rock for multiple independent gas reservoirs.Forth, the onshore uplift of the coastal basins in East Africa indirectly promoted the formation of gas field traps.Fifth, the nature and activity stages of faults play an important role during the transport of gas.
