Method of Vacuum Arc Remelting for the Titanium Alloy Ingot with high Niobium Content
The titanium alloys contain niobium in the applications of the medical,anti-corrosion,superconductive and the titanium-aluminum intermetallic compounds are increasing widely in recent years. The vacuum arc remelting(VAR)is the most economical and efficiency way to produce these kinds of titanium alloys under the current industrial conditions. The main problem for produce these titanium alloys is cannot to avoid the defect of niobium inclusions easily. The whole VAR process for Ti-50Nb alloy was investigated in this article, including the selection of raw materials, electrode preparation and the control of remelting parameters, also some theoretical analysis and experiments were carried out to find out the way to avoid the niobium inclusions. The niobium inclusion in the final test ingot were completely eliminated, due to some affective improvements for the processing were used. The high quality of all these kind of ingots without niobium inclusions, can be obtained by following those significant results.
