The Geological History and Fossil Research Progress of Micropterigidae(Lepidoptera)
Micropterigidae are the most primitive taxa in the extant Lepidoptera.Up to now,13 genera and 21 fossil species have been found and described in the world. However, due to the limitation of technical conditions in the early taxonomic studies, the taxonomic position of some genera and species still need to be revised. This paper lists the recorded fossils of Micropterigidae in the world, reviews the brief history, classification system and geological history. At present, the phylogenetic analysis of Micropterigidae is still controversial. In addition, the differences in the geographical distribution of the present and fossil groups of Micropterigidae also have their unique geological significance. Therefore, combining the phylogenetic analysis, paleogeography and plate drift theory to conduct historical biogeography research, and speculating the origin and distribution pattern of Micropterigidae will be the key focus of future research.
