A Study on the Selection of Dendrocalamus latiflorus Seedling Clone
This paper reports researches on selection and breeding of Dendrocalamus latiflorus seedling clones and their growth situation. The seeds obtained through artificial pollination are selected to grow into seedling clones by means of nursery cultivation and culturing in vitro. Results show that: (1) The seeds ofD. latiflorus obtained from the elite mother plants through artifi~ cial pollination are good for the seedling clone selection. The fine seedling population coming from these seeds will facilitate the selection of fine clones, and promote the efficiency of selection.(2) The seedling clones growing in the nursery show significant correlation with the growth situation when they are 16 months and 28 months old, which indicates that a depth clone selection can be carried out when seedlings are 16 months old. (3) To propagate seedlings through dividing tillers would accelerate the growth and multiplication of the seedling clones as a whole. This can help step up the progress of clone selection. (4) The growth properties of seedling clones in vitro strongly relate to those growing in nursery. The inherent growth characteristics of clones gradually appear when they are cultured in vitro for 3~6 months, at which time early selection may be implemented.
