Protection and Development of Bamboo-based Jialu Paper Umbrella in Wuyuan County,Jiangxi Province
Jialu Paper Umbrella is a unique national-level intangible cultural heritage in Wuyuan county,Jiangxi province,and also the third kind of traditional oil-paper umbrella that has been included in national intangible cultural heritage list.It has a long history,diverse types,unique craftsmanship,and high artistic and cultural value,which makes it one of bamboo cultural products with great development potential in Jiangxi.However,there is currently a lack of systematic research on Jialu Paper Umbrella,which results in the ineffective industrial development.This paper summarizes the development history and production techniques of Jialu Paper Umbrella through literature review and field investigation,analyzes the problems rising in their development,and proposes solutions.Jialu Paper Umbrella is found to be confronted with the problems,such as insufficient market demand,less attention paid on by government,weak awareness of protection and inheritance,limited efforts to promote,and lack of standardization in production processes,during its protection,inheritance and development.It is urgent to strengthen protection and inheritance,promote the brand building,carry out research on process and standard development,and develop diversified oil-paper umbrella products for Jialu Paper Umbrella to support the development of the bamboo industry with local characteristics.
