Variation Pattern of Bambusa distegia Culm Form Characters
Bambusa distegia is known for its high quality bamboo and long internode length. The characters of its culm form are the key factor affecting the utilization efficiency of bamboo. In order to investigate the relationship between B.distegia culm form characters and bamboo cluster characters.A total of 12 plots are set up in pure B.distegia forest in Jiangan county and Xuyong county,Sichuan province,to measure the number of bamboo nodes, the length of nodes, node central diameter, and wall thickness.By using curve fitting and correlation analysis, the variation pattern of B.distegia culm form characters are obtained. The results show that:1)The number of B.distegia bamboo nodes are mostly between 21 and 29 while the longest node reaches 128 cm,and the average length is 94.42 cm;2)The relative height of the longest node is between 0.36 and 0.58 comparing to the whole bamboo culm, and the average is 0.47.There is no significant difference among a majority of plots;3)As the relative height increases, the node length of B.distegia shows the distribution pattern of"short—long—short"in the form of symmetric parabola, and the wall thickness of bamboo node decreases, showing a significant negative correlation;4)The proportion of the volume of bamboo node to the volume of the whole culm show"less—more—less—very little"pattern from the bottom to the top in the form of parabola;and 5)The longest node volume of bamboo among plots tends to be consistent with the bamboo cluster characters. The ratio of node length and volume to the whole culm shows the pattern of parabolic distribution, presenting a certain degree of symmetry. The index of the longest node of B.distegia can be used as a judgment factor to the selective breeding of improved varieties.
