In recent years,moso bamboo forest management has declining benefits and even got abandoned in many places.In order to improve the benefits and enhance farmers'enthusiasm to manage bamboo forests,Polygonatum multiflorum is intercropped in moso bamboo forests under different management models(forest management for timber producing,forest management for shoot producing,forest management for timber and shoot producing)in Anji county,Zhejiang province.The results show that P.multiflorum tubers produced in the three bamboo forest management models have the right content that can meet the quality requirements stipulated in the Pharmacopoeia of the People's Republic of China,and the comprehensive income of bamboo forest management significantly increases after its intercropping with P.multiflorum.Among the three bamboo forest management models,intercropping P.multiflorum in the bamboo shoot forest on the downhill slope achieves the highest comprehensive benefits,which can increase the net income of forest farmers by 2 963 yuan/667 m2 per year.Intercropping P.multiflorum in bamboo forests is a simple cultivation method,most close to wild cultivation,with low labor input but high ecological and social benefits.It is currently a good choice for developing the understorey farming with moso bamboo forests.
