Crafts and Design Features of Yongtai's Traditional Bamboo Weaving in Fuzhou City,Fujiang Province
Yongtai's traditional bamboo weaving is one of the carriers of Fuzhou's humanistic spirit,culture and lifestyle in Fujian province.Currently,there are few researches on the traditional bamboo weaving.Through field research and observation,this study describes the craft characteristics of Yongtai's traditional bamboo weaving from the perspective of the embodiment of bamboo craftsman.It also analyzes the design features from the perspectives of function and form.Yongtai's traditional bamboo weaving includes ten steps from splitting the bamboo to weaving and coloring.The combined crafts such as interlacing,wrapping,and inserting make the weaving methods for base initiating,weaving,closing,fixing,and decorating wildly used in the weaving of the parts of bases,bodies,openings,handles,etc..In terms of design,the choice of geometric shapes and patterns is relevant to the part and functional requirements of the utensils,and the natural bamboo colors like yellow and brown are commonly used.The overall design emphasizes functionality while expressing aesthetics through the arrangement and combination of points,lines,planes,and volumes.This research aims to provide references for the future inheritance and development of traditional bamboo weaving in the Fuzhou region.
