Introduction of Edible and Medicinal Substances from Other Countries along the Ancient Silk Road Influences the Development of Dietary Therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine
As an important channel for trade and cultural exchange between China and other countries,the ancient Silk Road had a profound impact on the development of traditional Chinese medicine.The dietary therapy in traditional Chi-nese medicine has been increasingly valued for maintaining human health and prolonging human lifespan.By reviewing the introduction of edible and medicinal substances from other countries along the ancient Silk Road,we discovered that some of these substances are frequently used to prepare medicated diets,including congee,soup,alcohol beverages,cakes,and dishes,which are used to tonify deficiency or treat diseases.In addition,spices are fully used to prepare the diets for sea-soning and treating diseases and the drinks with healthcare effects.The knowledge about the application of edible and me-dicinal substances gives insights into the development of dietary therapy in traditional Chinese medicine.
