Prescription Rule for Epilepsy in Ancient Medical Records:An Analysis Based on Data Mining
Objective To summarize the prescription rule in the treatment of epilepsy in ancient Chinese medi-cine based on data mining.Methods Ancient medical records on epilepsy before January 1,1912 were retrieved by the Ancient and Modern Medical Case Cloud Platform(V2.3.8).Chinese herbal medicine data from the records that met the criteria were extracted,and a standard medical record database was established using Microsoft Excel 2019.Frequency a-nalysis,association rule analysis,cluster analysis,and complex network analysis were conducted to summarize the prescrip-tion rule of ancient practitioners in the treatment of epilepsy.Results A total of 192 epilepsy medical records were includ-ed,involving 244 herbal medicines with a cumulative usage frequency of 1 975.The top five used herbal medicines by us-age frequency were Arisaema cum Bile(69 times,35.94%),Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae(68 times,35.42%),Rhizoma Pinelliae(61 times,31.77%),Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii(59 times,30.73%),and Radix Et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae(54 times,28.12%).The herbs were mainly warm,cold,and moderate in nature,and sweet,bitter,and pungent in flavor,acting on the heart,lung,and liver meridians.The top five effects were tonifying,resolving phlegm and relieving cough and dyspnea,clearing heat,tranquilizing mind,and regulating qi.The top five herbal pairs in terms of association strength in-cluded Rhizoma Pinelliae-Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae,Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii-Arisaema cum Bile,Radix Polygalae-Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii,Ramulus Uncariae cum Uncis-Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae,and Radix Curcumae-Arisae-ma cum Bile.Complex network analysis identified the core prescription combinations:Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae,Rhizo-ma Pinelliae,Arisaema cum Bile,Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii,Poly gala,Radix Et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae,Radix Angelicae Sinensis,Ramulus Uncariae cum Uncis,poria with hostwood(Fu Shen),Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng,Poria,Radix Curcum-ae,and Cinnabaris.Conclusion Ancient physicians strictly followed the principle of reinforcing healthy qi to eliminate pathogens,emphasizing the use of tonifying and phlegm-resolving medicines.They established foundational prescriptions,such as modified Dingxian Pill,providing data support for the clinical medication of epilepsy.
