Clinical Effect of Acupuncture Combined with Massage and External Application of Traditional Chinese Medicine on Lactating Mastitis and Its Effect on Symptom Score
Objective To evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture combined with massage and external applica-tion of Chinese herbal medicine in the treatment of lactating mastitis and its impact on traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptom scores. Methods A total of 120 patients with lactation mastitis admitted to Tangshan Maternal and Child Health Hospital from March 2021 to December 2022 were selected and divided into a control group and a treatment group using a simple random sampling method, with 60 in each group. The control group received conventional Western medical treat-ment,while the treatment group was given acupuncture combined with massage and external application of Chinese herbal medicine.Patients were treated for two courses,5 days as one course. This paper compared the clinical efficacy, adverse re-actions,local breast symptom scores, improvement of clinical symptoms, and inflammatory markers[C-reactive protein(CRP),tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α),and interleukin-6(IL-6)],hematological parameters[white blood cell count(WBC),erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),and neutrophil ratio(NE%)]before and after treatment between the two groups. Results After treatment, the total effective rate in the treatment group was 96.67%(58/60),higher than 83.33%(50/60)of the control group(P<0.05).Symptoms such as breast tenderness, swelling, and milk secretion im-proved in both groups, with the treatment group presenting lower symptom scores than the control group(P<0.05).The treatment group also had shorter durations for body temperature normalization, resolution of breast swelling and pain, and milk flow restoration compared with the control group(P<0.05).Inflammatory markers CRP,TNF-α,and IL-6 were re-duced in both groups after treatment, with the treatment group exhibiting lower levels than the control group(P<0.05).Similarly,WBC,ESR,and NE%decreased in both groups, with the treatment group having lower values than the control group(P<0.05).No serious adverse reactions were reported in either group, with only minor dizziness and nausea ob-served in the control group, which resolved without intervention and did not recur during subsequent treatment. Conclusion Acupuncture combined with massage and external application of Chinese herbal medicine is significantly effective in trea-ting patients with lactating mastitis. It can reduce clinical symptom scores, improve inflammatory responses, and promote the recovery of hematological parameters.
