Efficacy of Tongmai Huayu Capsule in the Treatment of Patients with Vertebral Ar-tery Type-Cervical Spondylosis and Its Impact on Ultrasound Parameters of Verte-bral Basilar Artery
Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of Tongmai Huayu Capsule on patients with vertebral ar-tery type-cervical spondylosis and its impact on the ultrasonic parameters of the vertebral-basilar artery.Methods A total of 114 patients with vertebral artery type-cervical spondylosis treated at the Hengshui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from May 2021 to December 2022 were selected and randomly divided into a control group and a study group by a random number table method,with 57 in each group.The control group received flunarizine hydrochloride capsules along with routine interventions,while the study group was treated with Tongmai Huayu Capsule on the basis of the control group.Before and after the 4-week treatment,ultrasonic parameters of the vertebral basilar artery[average blood flow velocity(Vm),peak systolic velocity(Vs),end-diastolic velocity(Vd),pulsation index(PI),and resistance index(RI)],tradi-tional Chinese medicine(TCM)syndrome scores,vertigo symptom-related scores,and cervical joint mobility(left rotation,right rotation,left lateral flexion,right lateral flexion,forward flexion,and backward extension)were assessed.Results Af-ter treatment,Vm,Vs,and Vd of the vertebral basilar artery increased,while RI and PI decreased in both groups(P＜0.05).The study group had higher Vm,Vs,and Vd as well as lower RI and PI than the control group(P＜0.05).TCM syndrome scores for dizziness,deafness,tinnitus,neck and shoulder pain,irritability,difficulty in falling asleep,finger numbness,and memory decline decreased after treatment in both groups(P＜0.05),with the study group showing more significant improvements compared wtih the control group(P＜0.05).Additionally,scores for shoulder and neck pain,diz-ziness,headache,daily life and work,and psychological and social adaptation were lowered in both groups,with the study group exhibiting greater improvements than the control group(P＜0.05).Both groups had increased cervical joint mobility after treatment,and the study group showed a greater increase than the control group(P＜0.05).The total effective rate of the study group was 94.74％(54/57)higher than the 82.46％(47/57)in the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion Conventional Western medicine combined with Tongmai Huayu Capsule for the treatment of vertebral artery type-cervical spondylosis effectively regulates the ultrasonic parameters of the vertebral basilar artery,improves cervical joint mobility,and alleviates clinical symptoms and the severity of dizziness.
