Irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea(IBS-D)is one of the common gastrointestinal dis-eases in clinic.Professor Liu Fengbin,with extensive experience in treating IBS-D,considers it to fall within the category of"intestinal diarrhea"in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).The pathogenesis of IBS is mainly attributed to spleen defi-ciency as root cause,with common syndromes including liver depression and spleen deficiency,spleen deficiency with dampness stagnation,spleen deficiency with dampness-heat,and spleen-kidney deficiency.Treatment primarily focuses on tonifying the spleen,supplementing qi,caring middle,and protecting earth,while also soothing the liver,eliminating dampness,clearing heat,and nourishing the kidneys to regulate the overall qi circulation.Commonly used herbal pairs in-clude Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma-Paeoniae Radix Alba,Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium-Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride,Saposhnikoviae Radix-Paeoniae Radix Alba,Bupleuri Radix-Aurantii Fructus Immaturus,and Aucklandiae Ra-dix-Coptidis Rhizoma.Professor Liu Fengbin consistently achieves good therapeutic effects in clinical practice by emplo-ying these principles,making his approach worthy of widespread adoption.
