Clinical Observation of Traditional Chinese Medicine Black Plaster Combined with Compression Therapy in Treatment of Hypertrophic Scars
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)black plaster com-bined with compression therapy in the treatment of hypertrophic scars. Methods From July 2016 to June 2019,36 patients with hypertrophic scars post-burn were selected from the Rehabilitation Outpatient Department and the Burn Department of Shanxi Burn Treatment Center.Scars with the same burn depth, wound healing time, and method on the same patient's body were divided into two groups based on different treatment methods:the compression group and the TCM black plaster group. The compression group received compression therapy alone, while the TCM black plaster group received TCM black plaster combined with compression therapy. After six treatment courses, the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of the two groups were observed and compared. The Vancouver Scar Scale(VSS)and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS)scores were e-valuated before and after treatment. Results After treatment, the total clinical effective rate in the TCM black plaster group was 87.50%(28/32),significantly higher than 68.75%(22/32)in the compression group(P<0.05).Both groups showed significant reductions in VSS scores for scar color, hardness, and thickness compared to those before treatment(P<0.05).Moreover,the TCM black plaster group had significantly lower VSS scores for scar color, hardness, and thickness than the compression group(P<0.05).Both groups also showed significant reductions in VAS scores for itching and pain compared to those before treatment(P<0.05),with the TCM black plaster group having significantly lower VAS scores for itching and pain than the compression group(P<0.05).During the treatment, two patients in the TCM black plaster group developed eczema and did not complete the treatment, while no other adverse reactions occurred in the remaining patients. Conclusion TCM black plaster combined with compression therapy can effectively improve the color, hardness, and thick-ness of hypertrophic scars in burn patients and reduce itching and pain levels.
