Clinical Efficacy of Yiqi Jiedu Huayu Decoction Combined with Concurrent Chemo-radiotherapy on Elderly Patients with Esophageal Cancer and Its Effect on Quality of Life of Patients
Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Yiqi Jiedu Huayu Decoction combined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy in the treatment of elderly patients with esophageal cancer and its impact on their quality of life.Meth-ods Eighty-two elderly inpatients with esophageal cancer admitted to Hebei General Hospital for Veterans,Xingtai Peo-ple's Hospital,and the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xingtai Medical College between January 2019 and December 2021 were enrolled and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group,with 41 patients in each group.The con-trol group received concurrent chemoradiotherapy,while the observation group received Yiqi Jiedu Huayu Decoction in ad-dition to the treatment given to the control group.After one month of treatment,the clinical efficacy,adverse reactions,Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS)score,and quality of life score of the two groups were compared before and after treat-ment.Results After treatment,the overall effective rate in the observation group was 75.61％(31/41),significantly high-er than 51.22％(21/41)in the control group(P＜0.05).After treatment,both groups showed a statistically significant in-crease in KPS scores compared to those before treatment(P＜0.001),with the observation group showing a significantly higher KPS score than the control group(P＜0.05).Both groups also exhibited a statistically significant increase in SF-36 scores after treatment compared to those before treatment(P＜0.05),with the observation group scoring significantly higher than the control group(P＜0.05).During the treatment period,the incidence rates of radiation pneumonitis,myelo-suppression,and gastrointestinal reactions in the observation group(7.3％,26.8％,and 36.6％)were significantly lower than those(29.3％,48.8％,58.5％)in the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion Yiqi Jiedu Huayu Decoction com-bined with concurrent chemoradiotherapy can improve clinical efficacy in elderly patients with esophageal cancer who are not suitable for surgery,enhance their physical condition,improve their quality of life,and reduce adverse reactions.
