Application of Herbal Paste in Febrile Disease Recovery Period Based on the Theory of"Failure to Nourish the Essence in Winter will Induce Warm Diseases in Spring"
Herbal paste is one of the eight dosage forms of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM),with the rest be-ing pills,powder,pellets,liquor,distillate,decoction,and troche.Herbal paste has gradually become popular with the devel-opment of the times and is now widely used in the treatment of patients with diseases in the later stages and chronic disea-ses and adopted for prevention before disease onset.The febrile disease recovery period refers to the stage of recovery from illness,which contributes to prolonged recurrence or sequelae.Based on the theory that"failure to nourish the essence in Winter will induce warm diseases in Spring",it was proposed that"failure to nourish kidney essence"was a prerequisite for the onset of febrile disease and important pathogenesis for the remaining evil and prolonged recurrence during the febrile disease recovery period,which coincided with the function of the herbal paste in nourishing and filling the essence.There-fore,based on the experience of ancient doctors applying herbal paste in the febrile disease recovery period,this paper paid attention to retreating the disease by strong prescriptions and making full use of animal supplements or tonic herbal medi-cines to nourish Yin essence.Sweet and cold tonic herbal medicines could be used to clear away the remaining evil and nourish the stomach Yin,and etiology and combination of syndrome should be emphasized.An appropriate mixture of static and motive herbal medicines was necessary to better play the role of herbal paste in the febrile disease recovery period and provide a reference.
