Efficacy of Tongdu Yinao Acupuncture Combined with Huatan Tongluo Formula in Treatment of Dysphagia Caused by Pseudobulbar Paralysis after Ischemic Stroke and Effect on Serum BDNF and IGF-1
Objective To observe the efficacy of the Tongdu Yinao acupuncture combined with Huatan Tongluo Formula in treating dysphagia in patients caused by pseudobulbar paralysis after ischemic stroke and its effect on serum levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and insulin-like growth factor Ⅰ(IGF-1).Methods A total of 110 patients with pseudobulbar palsy-induced dysphagia after ischemic stroke treated in the Department of Neurology at Shu-nyi Hospital of Beijing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from December 2020 to December 2021,were selected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group according to a random number table,with 55 patients in each group.The control group received routine treatment and rehabilitation exercises,while the observation group received Tongdu Yinao acupuncture combined with Huatan Tongluo Formula based on the treatment in the control group.Both groups were treated for 4 weeks.Clinical efficacy,traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)symptom scores,swallowing function[Standardized Swallowing Assessment(SSA)and Kubota Drinking Test],swallowing-related quality of life(Swallow Qual-ity-of-Life Questionnaire,SWAL-QOL),and levels of BDNF and IGF-1 were observed and compared before and after treatment.Results After treatment,the total effective rate in the observation group was 92.73％(51/55),significantly higher than 80.00％(44/55)in the control group(P＜0.05).After treatment,both groups showed significant decreases in SSA and Kubota Drinking Test scores and significant increases in SWAL-QOL scores compared to those before treatment(P＜0.05).The SSA and Kubota Drinking Test scores in the observation group were significantly lower,and SWAL-QOL scores significantly higher than those in the control group(P＜0.05).Both groups showed significant decreases in TCM symptom scores compared to those before treatment,with the observation group being significantly lower than the control group(P＜0.05).After treatment,serum levels of BDNF and IGF-1 in both groups were significantly higher than those before treatment,with the observation group being significantly higher than the control group(P＜0.05).Conclusion The Tongdu Yinao acupuncture combined with Huatan Tongluo Formula significantly improves facial muscle electrical activity and neurological function in patients with pseudobulbar palsy-induced dysphagia after ischemic stroke,which upregulates neurotrophic factors,alleviates dysphagia symptoms,and improves quality of life,demonstrating significant efficacy and clin-ical value for widespread application.
