This paper summarized the clinical experience of Professor Zhang Jianyong,a famous doctor in Guang-dong Province,in treating postpartum pain.During childbirth,women suffer from large deficiency of qi and blood,liver and kidney damage,and loss of nourishment of muscle and bone.At this time,the invasion of external pathogen and the linger-ing of pathogen in muscle,tendon,and bone will block qi movement and blood flow,which will cause postpartum pain.Since postpartum pain has no specific laboratory indicators and is associated with only elevated levels of inflammatory me-diators,Professor Zhang advocates treating the pain with traditional Chinese medicine.He emphasizes that the treatment should focus on replenishing qi,nourishing blood,soothing liver,benefiting kidney,eliminating pathogen,and alleviating impediment.Attention should be paid to both symptoms and root causes,and the treatment should consider both internal and external factors.In addition,psychological counseling should be adopted to ultimately alleviate the pain and improve the quality of life of the patients.
