Professor BAO Shentao is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)physician with rich clini-cal experience,especially in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia(PHN),a skin disease.PHN,a common and difficult disease in dermatology,has become the top priority in the research of dermatology.The clinical treatment focuses on relie-ving the pain,lowering the levels of inflammatory cytokines,and improving the immune function,achieving satisfactory re-sults,in which TCM demonstrates unique advantages.Professor BAO Shentao believes that the root causes of PHN are lung-kidney deficiency,qi stagnation and blood stasis,and combined deficiency and excess.Accordingly,he proposes the treatment principle of replenishing lung and tonifying kidney and advocates the treatment based on syndrome differentia-tion,which has achieved definite effect and provided clear syndrome differentiation ideas and treatment methods.
