Exploration of Sanpian Decoction for Treating Migraines Based on Theory of"Shaoyang as Pivot"
Migraine falls under the category of headaches in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and is character-ized by its chronic and recurrent nature. The theory of"Shaoyang as the pivot"originates from the Huangdi Neijing.Shaoy-ang functions as the pivot among the three Yang channels, facilitating the circulation of Yang Qi throughout the body, acting as the pivot of the six meridians, and balancing the Yin and Yang of the exterior and interior. When the Shaoyang pivot is impaired, the normal circulation of Yang Qi is disrupted, leading to stagnation. This stagnation impairs the circulation of Qi and blood to the head, and when compounded by external pathogenic invasion and deficiency of Yang Qi,which weakens the body's resistance, headaches are triggered. Therefore, regulating the Shaoyang pivot is an essential principle in the treat-ment of migraines. In clinical practice,Sanpian decoction is often used to relieve stagnation and promote Qi flow. This for-mula is frequently applied to treat migraines caused by constrained Qi and wind pathogen attacking the Shaoyang meridian on one side of the head.It helps disperse wind from the Shaoyang meridian, achieving the therapeutic effects of"expelling Yang pathogens, unblocking the Yang meridian, and regulating the pivot,"thereby alleviating headache symptoms and re-ducing the frequency of migraine attacks.By analyzing the theory of"Shaoyang as the pivot",this approach aims to enrich and inherit the application of traditional Chinese medicine theory in modern clinical practice.
