Research Progress and Visualization of Autophagy-based Exploration of Tradition-al Chinese Medicine for the Treatment of Atherosclerosis
Objective To explore the current research status and hotspots of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)in regulating autophagy-related pathways in atherosclerosis(AS)and to conduct a visual analysis, aiming to provide re-search directions and innovative ideas for further studies in this field. Methods Relevant literature published from data-base inception to December 31,2023,was retrieved from CNKI,VIP,Wanfang Data, and SinoMed databases. After dedupli-cation using NoteExpress,CiteSpace 6.1 was employed to perform bibliometric and visual analyses of publication volume, authors, key words, and other factors, focusing on the primary research hotspots and evolving trends in the field. Results A total of 360 Chinese articles were included, showing a year-by-year increase in publication volume.Major research insti-tutions included Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Hunan University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and its affiliated hospitals. The main research hotspots identified were autophagy in macrophages, mitophagy, endothelial cells, inflammatory responses, and oxidative stress. Conclusion TCM plays a significant role in AS intervention by regulating different stages of autophagy to exert anti-AS effects.Further ex-ploration of TCM's research status in this area could offer new perspectives and references for the treatment of cardiovascu-lar diseases such as coronary artery disease and myocardial infarction.
