Clinical Efficacy of Modified Shechuangzi Powder by Professor Cheng Ling in Treat-ment of Vulvar Lichen Sclerosus in Young Girls
Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of Professor Cheng Ling's modified Shechuangzi Powder in the treatment of vulvar lichen sclerosus(VLS)in young girls. Methods A total of 68 pediatric patients diagnosed with VLS who visited the pediatric gynecology clinic at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Shunyi District,Beijing,be-tween December 2019 and December 2022 were enrolled and randomly divided into a control group and a treatment group using a random number table, with 34 cases in each group. The control group was treated with hydrocortisone butyrate cream, while the treatment group received Professor Cheng Ling's modified Shechuangzi Powder combined with hydrocorti-sone butyrate cream. After 12 weeks of treatment, the clinical efficacy, recurrence rate, and adverse reactions were com-pared between the two groups.Additionally, clinical symptom scores, physical sign scores, the Xie-Kawashima itch severi-ty scores, and skin scores were assessed before and after treatment. Results After one month of treatment, the skin color and Xie-Kawashima(daytime and nighttime)scores in both groups significantly improved compared to baseline(P<0.05),with no significant difference in skin elasticity scores compared to baseline(P>0.05).There were no significant differences between the two groups in skin color, skin elasticity,or Xie-Kawashima(daytime and nighttime)scores after one month of treatment(P>0.05).After three months of treatment, both groups showed significant improvements in skin color, skin elasticity, and Xie-Kawashima(daytime and nighttime)scores compared to baseline(P<0.05).Furthermore,the treatment group exhibited significantly greater reductions in skin color and Xie-Kawashima(daytime and nighttime)scores than the control group(P<0.05).The total effective rate in the treatment group was 94.12%(32/34),significantly higher than the 85.29%(29/34)in the control group(P<0.05).During the follow-up period, the recurrence rate in the treatment group was 5.88%(2/34),which was significantly lower than 17.65%(6/34)in the control group(P<0.05).No abnormal adverse reactions, such as changes in blood tests, liver and kidney function,or electrocardiograms, were ob-served in either group during the treatment. Conclusion Professor Cheng Ling's modified Shechuangzi Powder demon-strates good clinical efficacy in treating VLS in young girls, which can effectively alleviate itching and improve skin color in a relatively short period, with a lower recurrence rate.
