Clinical Efficacy of Spleen-strengthening and Kidney-tonifying Therapy Com-bined with Endocrine Therapy on Postoperative Patients with Breast Cancer and Its Effect on Adverse Reactions,Quality of Life,Recurrence, and Metastasis
Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of the spleen-strengthening and kidney-tonifying therapy combined with endocrine therapy in postoperative breast cancer patients and its effect on adverse reactions, quality of life, recurrence, and metastasis. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 78 breast cancer patients treated at Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine affiliated with Shanghai University of Tradi-tional Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to January 2022.Patients were randomly divided into a control group and an ob-servation group according to a random number table, with 39 cases in each group. The control group received standard en-docrine therapy, while the observation group was additionally treated with the spleen-strengthening and kidney-tonifying therapy in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM).After three months of treatment, clinical efficacy, adverse reactions, and re-currence and metastasis rates in both groups,as well as TCM syndrome scores,Kupperman scores,Karnofsky Performance Status(KPS)scores,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)scores, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy:Breast Cancer(FACT-B)scores before and after treatment, were compared.Changes in serum estrogen(E2),tumor markers[car-cinoembryonic antigen(CEA),carbohydrate antigen 125(CA125),carbohydrate antigen 15-3(CA153)],and lipid levels[triglycerides(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein(LDL-C),and high-density lipoprotein(HDL-C)]were also analyzed. Results The total effective rate in the observation group was 94.87%(37/39),significantly higher than 69.23%(27/39)in the control group(χ2=20.611,P<0.01).The observation group showed significant re-ductions in all syndrome scores and total scores after treatment(P<0.05),while the control group showed significant re-ductions except for lumbar and knee soreness and chest distension(P<0.05),with the scores of the observation group lower than those of the control group(P<0.05).Both groups had significant reductions in modified Kupperman scores and PSQI after treatment, and increased KPS scores(P<0.05),with the observation group showing lower modified Kupperman score and PSQI and higher KPS score than the control group(P<0.05).FACT-B scores also increased in both groups af-ter treatment(P<0.05),with the observation group scoring significantly higher(P<0.01).There were no significant differences in serum E2,FSH,CEA,and CA125 levels between groups before and after treatment(P>0.05).After treat-ment,TC,TG,and LDL-C levels decreased significantly in the observation group(P<0.05),while the control group showed no significant changes(P>0.05).The TC,TG,and LDL-C levels in the observation group were significantly low-er than those in the control group(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in HDL-C between the two groups(P>0.05).No allergy or other severe adverse reactions occurred in either group during treatment. At one-year follow-up,there were no significant differences in recurrence or metastasis rates(χ2=0.655,P=0.418).Conclusion The spleen-strengthening and kidney-tonifying therapy can alleviate adverse reactions associated with endocrine therapy in breast cancer patients, improve clinical symptoms, enhance treatment effectiveness, and improve sleep and quality of life, though it has limited impact on short-term recurrence or metastasis.
