Primary Sjögren's syndrome(pSS)is a chronic inflammatory autoimmune disease that involves not only exocrine glands,but also multiple organs and systems.Among them,the blood system is the most commonly involved,usually manifested as hemocytopenia in one or multiple lineages.There is a lack of universally recognized therapy for pSS with hemocytopenia.Western medicine mainly focuses on glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants,while traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)has a good effect on the treatment of this disease.This article summarized the experience of TCM diagnosis and treatment and related studies of pSS with hemocytopenia,in order to provide reference for TCM clinical treatment of this disease.Modern TCM experts believe that the core pathogenesis of pSS is dual deficiency of qi and yin.After a long-term disease duration,a variety of pathological products such as heat,toxin,and blood stasis were produced,which interact with each other,leading to disorders of qi,blood,and body fluid,and eventually causing hemocytopenia.This disease occurred in the liver,spleen and kidney,and the treatment methods are mainly nourishing Yin,tonifying qi and blood,supplemented by the method of clearing heat and removing toxins,resolving stasis and dred-ging collaterals.Furthermore,the emphasis of medication was adjusted according to the different types of hemocytopenia and wheth-er glucocorticoids are used.Compared with western medicine,TCM has certain advantages which can better improve blood cell count and lower the incidence of adverse events.
