Ferroptosis is a novel iron ion-involved programmed cell death pathway.Osteoporosis,as a common metabolic disorder,has a close relationship with ferroptosis.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)possesses unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.Under the guidance of ferroptosis theory,how to select the optimal TCM methods to improve the treatment efficiency of osteoporosis is a pressing issue in this field of research.The main regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis are related to osteoporosis.TCM therapies,such as Zanthoxyli Pericarpium,Curcumae Longae Rhizoma,Salviae Miltiorrhizae Radix et Rhizoma,Astragali Radix,and Bushen Huanjing Formula,as well as electroacupuncture,have therapeutic effects on osteoporosis and can in-tervene in ferroptosis through different pathways.It is inferred that the included single drugs,compound formulas,electroacupunc-ture,and other TCM therapies can regulate osteoporosis by intervening in ferroptosis.
